Hospitality Partner hosts Local Event
On Saturday, July 23rd, foodies and environmentalists alike gathered at Venkman’s in Atlanta, GA to celebrate the seasonal flavors of the Southeast region. These locavores were attending the first Make Your Meals Matter event organized by Greener Fields Together and Royal Food Service. The event aimed to highlight and celebrate the efforts of local farmers.
Upon opening their menus, diners were met with added Greener Fields Together logos next to menu items that were created solely with ingredients sourced from the Southeast. The featured menu items included the Breakfast Poutine, the Blueberry Ricotta Donuts, the Pecan Granola Parfait, and the Vegetable Omelette of the day, which featured local zucchini and squash. Additionally, all the eggs and fruit served on Saturday were also from local producers.
In the background, a live band sponsored by a local chicken farmer, Springer Mountain Farms, performed and added to the down-home ambience. Underneath the melody of acoustic guitars and the crooning female lead singer, the sounds of delighted diners mixed with conversations on the local and sustainable food movement.
The Make Your Meals Matter brunch was the first of its kind to celebrate local products in this way. With over 45 local farms within the region, it allows local purveyors like Royal Food Service to provide customers with the freshest flavors from right within their region. As the water crisis in California increases and pollution continues to deteriorate the environment, sourcing our food from within the region is not only the natural thing to do; it is the right thing to do.
In the following months, Greener Fields Together will be developing the Make Your Meals Matter campaign to help consumers decide where they can find restaurants that value sourcing local and sustainable produce.
